Takaya Yamazato

Dr. Takaya Yamazato (S’91–M’93) is a professor at the Institute of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Nagoya University, Japan. He received a Ph.D. from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Keio University, Yokohama, Japan, in 1993. From 1993 to 1998, he was an Assistant Professor at the Department of Information Electronics, Nagoya University, Japan. From 1997 to 1998, he was a visiting researcher at the Research Group for RF Communications, University of Kaiserslautern, German. In 1998, he gave a half-day tutorial entitled “Introduction to CDMA ALOHA” at Globecom held in Sydney, Australia. Since then, he has been serving as a TPC member of Globecom and ICC. In 2006, he received the IEEE Communication Society’s Best Tutorial Paper Award. He served as the co-chair of the Wireless Communication Symposia of ICC 2009 and was the co-chair of Selected Areas in Communication Symposia of ICC 2011. From 2008 to 2010, he served as the chair of the Satellite and Space Communication Technical Committee. In 2011, he gave a half-day tutorial entitled “Visible Light Communication” at ICC 2011 held in Kyoto, Japan. He currently serves as the Director of Asia-Pacific Board, IEEE Communication Society. His research interests include visible light communication (VLC), intelligent transport system (ITS), stochastic resonance (SR), and open educational resources (OER).


Vineetha Kalavally
Dr. Vineetha Kalavally is from the Malaysian campus of Monash University, where she is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering Department within the Faculty of Engineering. She has a PhD in Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering from Monash University Australia in the area of optical amplification and a Masters in Radio Communications and High Frequency Engineering from the University of Leeds.
As principal investigator for Intelligent Lighting Laboratory at Monash University Malaysia, Dr. Vineetha is recognised as an expert in the field of Solid State Lighting in Malaysia. She has successfully led collaborative research projects with the lighting industry and international partner universities. Dr. Vineetha has an exceptional record of growing a new multidisciplinary research focus in the University from its infancy to a well-established infrastructure. She is a Chartered Engineer with a CENG from the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET). Her current research focusses on the development of lighting systems which are human-centric, with a focus on the human user experience and well-being.


David Whitfield
David is a successful inventor and technology entrepreneur. His latest ventures include IoL Technologies. IoL is developing technologies that leverage LED lighting to deliver a Plug-and-Play web-like environment. It will enable the IoT and provide accurate, 3-dimensional location capabilities anywhere in our urban environments. David has won national and international innovation awards and has Patents across several industries.
